Also, Star Fox Zero had amazingly bad sales. I am not saying they are going to go out of business anytime soon, just that things are definitely fuct if you take amiibos, digital sales, and Miitomo out of the picture (they are doing okay in some areas, but not the areas that have generally been their strengths or main focus).
Why on Earth would you want to do that?

Microsoft made a 4 billion (!) dollar loss on the original XBOX. Losses, not a lowered income. Actual losses. I'm going to let that sink in for a moment.

So, going by your logic, if you take Microsoft's other business out of the picture, they shouldn't be producing consoles anymore... or games. And yet here we are.

Nintendo's net income of down because they haven't produced any games to sell, and they are focusing all of their resources on the next console. They also aren't selling many 3DS units.

It may seem to be detrimental, but this happens every time they are transitioning to a new system.
People cite doom and gloom, but it's normally short lived.

In contrast, PSN is largely the only saving grace for Sony. These companies are all surviving on digital sales and subscription services. That's the way it works now.

I don't really keep track, but there seems to be doubt about if Microsoft will stay in the console business. I'm not interested in making judgement calls on what companies should do, but I don't find it unreasonable for any of the major console manufacturers to decide they aren't making enough money from consoles specifically to continue bothering in the near future (though this would be surprising from Sony, with how well the PS4 is doing . . . though that doesn't make up for what happened with the PS3). They can all switch to streaming devices if they all wanted to . . . who knows what the future holds. I vaguely commented on Sony and Microsoft but wasn't interested in going into detail about their issues/past issues because I'm not as concerned about what Sony and Microsoft do in the future.

I understand all of that, I'm just hoping the next system from Nintendo is something that works out better for them and more people want. It's going to be weird having a lot of radio silence until their next Direct or whenever they are ready to reveal more information . . . and with the lack of games being released slowing to even more of a crawl for months.
