To be fair, I DID purchase Barbie: Riding Adventure for PS1 as a joke gift for a friend. (He loved it, btw). The pain is checking out with it and actually exchanging cash for such a thing.
There was a bunch of computer harddrives and parts sitting at the GoodWill once, all of which are worth some good cash. I'm not a reseller, so I left them... but those dudes didn't even look at them. I found that a bit odd. Terabyte HDD, etc.
I'll always remember the first time we got in a Turbo Grafx 16 console bundle. Blew my mind at $19.99, which I did buy. Initially, it was priced at $4.99 because not everyone is aware of the price so I raised it to $19.99. I've seen it come through twice since I have been there, even a Virtual Boy (which I bought for $7 with stand, eye visor) came in twice. Neo Geo Pocket Color came in twice. Let's see what else....Commodore 64, Atari 2600s, Intellivision (which I bought but never really used, way too old for me), N64 consoles. I have the grape and ice blue models I got in the last couple of months.
Neo Geo AES I have never seen, though that would have been pretty sweet, as expensive as they are.
So if you guys want to work at GW, it's a fun place just seeing what wildly different items come in. Even part-time isn't bad.

30 minutes is crazy. This is probably why I rarely hit the Goodwills near me.
The local thrift has the policy of an employee has to wait until they are on break or their shift if over to buy something, stuff has to go out in the case until that time. You're not allowed to hold stuff in the back and are not supposed to call non-employees in to pick up stuff for you, but almost everyone that works there has at least one or two guys they work in tandem with to grab a hot item.
I don't work there and never have, but I have been going to this thrift regularly for probably close to 8 years at this point. Many times I will get to know employees and they will tip me on something that's about to come out, but that is just because I am polite and friendly. There is lots of turnover in a thrift store though, you're lucky if you'll see an employee for over a year and at that point they are normally going to have moved up to being a manager or keyholder.
To be quite honest I envy no one who works at a thrift. Reselling other people's stuff at a questionable markup is a huge amount of work, and I would much rather do something that I enjoy and find stimulating as a career than dig through all the garbage that comes through just to find a couple jewels. I still like to get a cool "find" every now and then, but I consider it a cheap hobby that rarely costs me more than $15 for something. Also, seeing all the weird stuff that comes in is so fun, I never get bored of it. It makes me feel like a vintage archaeologist most of the time.
Honestly it's why I barely bother going to any thrifts anymore. Too worked over.

I've entertained the idea of picking up part time work at a thrift store just to try to get dibs, but it sounds like if be better off just camping there for games. xD
I've been really lucky a time or two, but I stop into several shops every week, and one ship every day after work. It's barren, and probably not worth the time or gas, but I can't help myself. And there's nothing worse than finding that game you've been looking for in a charity shop only to find it marked up 300% retail. Ugh...
Or finding a game worthwhile, but the disc is missing.
Or in the case for $20 MORE than Amazon. Who even researches those prices?
