The real 68k hardware / Genesis has no ability to read an SD card, let alone have the OS to support the FAT32 file-system that is commonly used on them. It's possible to have a more capable processor as an intermediary, but unlikely. The 68k / Z80 / Yamaha hardware in the Genesis would be extremely expensive to implement these days, even with the custom ASIC that came in model 2 and later.

It's not impossible, but just really unlikely. However, they did make a custom ASIC with the early Atari Flashback consoles (which is what makes them so cool) but that was like a decade ago and people never seem to want to put that kind of R&D into making a game console.

But the FPGA option is still a possibility, like the Retro USB NES clone. That's "real hardware" as far as I am concerned, even though it's not.

The problem I see with all of the Genesis emulator consoles is that they simply suck. The audio is the biggest offender of all. It's not impossible to make a quality emulator clone, but it would take much more expensive hardware than the cheapo ARM cores that they stick on them. LoP can now comment on how I am not defending ARM in this case.

So apparently Tec Toy is the distributor for the new Genesis / Mega Drive, in Brazil, as they always have been. They claim that it's not an emulator. I'd love to see someone crack it open when it's released. I wish that AtGames didn't have the North American license, because their consoles are like dog crap. Tec Toy has always done pretty well with the SEGA consoles.

It's doubtful that we'll see this outside of Brazil as a result of the import / export laws and licensing agreements, but maybe we'll get lucky. It's pretty expensive for what it is, but if it's fairly authentic hardware it might be worth it.

I was saying yeah it's tec toy and yes they are lying. They have a history of lying and non-answers. A couple Brazilian posters had a lot of info on them.
