Probably a stealth revision. There are lots of those in any console generation. Lots of 360s, Saturns, PS2s etc... that look identical but have chip differences and such.
That's very true. I have a launch one, so I guess when they release a new model of it I'll likely buy that, transfer my crap and hack the old one.

I'd bet it's all down to who can made 5 million chips for .0001 cent cheaper.
So since that's actually based on the chip is there a way to tell what systems have it? Model # or something?
I'm curious to see if this will lead to being able to run the clocks at full tilt instead of Nintendo's gimped nonsense.

Revisions are usually to fix hardware problems or make general improvements via tweaks and/or process shrinks.

There are outside tells for some, and of course Sony numbers all their consoles which is super handy. In some cases you just have to open them up and know what to look for.
