And here I thought Shenmue fans had it really good.
I never played Shenmue and have no idea what's wrong about III, but hey, at least it looks and sounds like it belongs in the series........ right? The way they talk and everything seemed on point. That is a blessing because the games I like just get turned into mobile crap :P

On the other hand though, there's Mighty no. 9, now THAT game always gets a lot of hate, yet to me it was a really nice revival of the MegaMan franchise. Whatever flaws it had were really easy to look past given how much fun everything was, and my favorite part, it had a really cool OST. It was during these days that I still would have signed a Lunar 3 petition. But after seeing where Japan went next, which is to make total crap (like MegaMan 11 cough*) and having that mobile Rockman X DiVE crap made in Taiwan... to see that people actually like these things a lot instead just kills any faith I had left.

I only played the first 15min of Shenmue III so hardly anything to go by, but wasn't impressed and I'm not talking visuals.

Generally speaking, only people who liked Shenmue 1 and 2 will like Shenmue 3. It's weird because it's actually Shenmue and really hasn't changed in 20 years. This is good or bad, depending upon who you ask.

I like Shenmue 3 but felt that it was both good and bad in that regard, but enjoyed the game.

    'Is a Suikoden fan.'
I feel the Shenmue fans have it better than we do.

Nowadays, it seems risky revitalizing a given series that used to be (to us) a part of our childhood.

I don't trust big companies like Capcom, Square Enix or even Nintendo sometimes, they just want to take an existing game series, and either put today's trends into them, or be cheap enough to try to maximize profits and sell just based on name.

But there's definitely a few people out there I trust, like Inti Creates who have yet to even make a single mobile game problem is, games like Lunar will never be in the hands of good people like them Also, JRPGs in general have sucked since the PS2 era. I haven't seen a JRPG developer currently active that I'd fully trust. Japan needs to prove to me that they wanna do the Sonic Mania treatment to JRPGs, no weird new innovative crap, no overly fanservice games, no mobile crap, no bad OSTs, no overly uninspired story writing and no moe crap. (I swear, Ryza has sold entirely because of fat thighs). Only when the new JRPGs are great and free of these cancers, it would be worth reviving old franchises.

Even the good stuff is a bit weak. I keep trying to like the Trails series but everything I've played from the PSP up to Cold Steel is just a drag. Not terrible. Just not that engaging.

I don't think that most Inti Creates games would translate well to mobile. Touch controls would make hard games even harder. They seem to be doing well enough by keeping their games on the consoles, so maybe they are doing it right.

I've heard that some of the smaller games like I am Setsuna have pretty similar mechanics to older JRPGs, but I haven't played them. To be totally honest I enjoy the modern ease with some RPGs because grinding unnecessarily is not how I want to spend my time anymore. Ys 8 was a a good action-RPG but many big companies feel this big need to be innovative when they really don't need to be.

That's exactly the point they don't try to bullshit me into playing mobile games like Nintendo, Capcom and Square Enix do.
I admit, when I first played Gunvolt, I wasn't impressed for a few reasons on 3DS, but they fixed all of it for PC and Switch, then I immediately played the other 2 games, which lived up to that new quality! I am fully hyped for the next Gunvolt game. And they supposedly have 3 or so unannounced games coming The likelyhood of them all being good console/PC games is quite high.

You haven't played Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Quest) yet, have you?
