There's another site doing a similar project that I can't remember the name of. I'll post the link if I do.
Edit:

Much messier than the first link. I think projects for the first two movies have been completed (not at 4K).

Well that would be nice, and also kind of funny since I recently bought the blu-rays. Not super recently but within the last year.

There are only two ways I see Disney refusing to release the theatricals:
A) It would cost too much money and the returns their projections spit out aren't high enough
B) It was part of the deal with Lucas that they never ever in a million years to release them
I'll still go with Lucas owns Ep 4 and for some reason won't end up getting a deal done with disney. That's the only hurdle I see. Disney could do 5/6 but the that just leaves it kinda blah since there isn't a nice 3 pack. You know Lucas wanted more trash in them just the tech wasn't there the last time.
Actually Disney doesn't own rights to distribution of 4-6

So, if you’ve been holding out for a release of the original trilogy, unaltered and in HD, you’re going to have to keep holding out. As it stands, unless 20th Century Fox decided to make a deal with Disney (which could happen), you’re unlikely to see the unaltered trilogy on Blu-ray.

I mean, it's 2017 and we have to resort to a fan project for the theatrical originals in HD. Lucas is pretty good at ignoring money, probably because he already has too much of it.
I'm dumb enough to have blus dvds and VHS of the originals. I'd like to get the LDs eventually.
