It seems Best Buy also got some kind of exclusive version of that in a tin case (I vaguely recall seeing it there). Were the various versions of the 2-disc sets and/or the tin version the only ones available for a limited time (or maybe all of them?) . . . or was it all marketing BS? I wasn't in stores looking at DVDs much after release to notice how long they were on shelves/how much they were sought-after at the time.

Yeah it's not a big deal. You aren't an LD hobbyist with like two freaking HLD-XOs*.
*None currently on eBay or in the eBay sold history, but you can imagine what they go for considering it is regarded as the best.
Oh and it's possible that it could be auto-flipping and the mechanism just isn't functioning. If you poke around LD hobbyist forums I'm sure you could get an answer on if it is supposed to or not. After being told to throw the player in the trash first of course.

I really don't know. I remember seeing them back then and thought I'd wait for a deal since I had just bought the stupid fancy trilogy dvd set just before those came out. Not knowing they'd be "RAREZ". So I was thrilled to find them so cheap recently. (last year or so)
LOLOL
I actually came across a couple posts saying just that already.
XD
I'll look into it more later. I'm not real concerned since it seems to otherwise function. Why mess? I can manage to get up and flip the disc if needed.![]()

Getting up is hard though. Better get another player and two copies of every movie.![]()

What a mess. Why can't we have the theatrical version on BD? George Lucas is annoying.
