So I picked up a 2TB Seagate backup slim+ for my PS4. I was planning to just use it as an external HDD but I see it's perfect for an internal HDD.
Is it worth swapping? Have the original 500GB yet. Mostly I have updates and game installs on my PS4.

If you have additional means of backing up your PS4, sure. Or don't care about anything on your hdd and don't mind reinstalling. Also saves, don't forget PS+ doesn't auto backup saves to the cloud like XBLive does.

At Z: Any thoughts on Sony's late 80s power amps or Crest's CA models?

I've got no real experience with the older Sony stuff (before my time even though you think I'm old) but no complains about Crest.

    Surely you jest !

Thanks. The pricing on a used CA6/9 is appealing but I'm not sure if I'll consider the fan noise acceptable or not. Ever use one?

Not that particular model. You might not find the fan noise acceptable with any older rack-mounted power amps from Peavey / Crest / Crown, etc. As things have moved entirely to very specialized Class-D amps within the past few years, and products like Harman's DriveCore are run in most power amps these days. Peavey / Crest has their own similar proprietary Class-D products as well. Most of these amps were designed to be installed away from the listening space, like in a rack somewhere, or in a venue where the music is so loud that it doesn't matter. Massive power output was always a priority before chassis noise.

Aye, I kind of figured with the output being what it is. If the Parasound HCA-1500 that's up on eBay right now wasn't busted I'd probably just grab that and be done with it.

Still not sure what route I'm going with the preamp. Schiit's SYS is tempting from a price perspective and that I don't want a preamp affecting the sound much/at all but two inputs is pretty lame.

One of the record players I have will record itself (has a usb/sd slot). I know that's not optimal.
Years back I had tried to record from an actual player to pc using headphone jack to pc input. Kept being way too staticy so I gave that up. Never sorted it out if it was the player/needle/vinyls or what (or my not knowing what to do).

I am hoping to get a player setup in the same room with my gaming stuff so I can just play from the records.

Was it the front jack? That tends to be noisier than rear jacks and depending on how old the computer was the integrated audio may have been poor to start. This site has specs on a lot of turntables (other stuff too).

On the topic of ripping vinyl: Z, any thoughts on ADCs for it? I was poking around at units to consider in the future and this seems well spec'd.

I guess I'm lost on the appeal of having equipment to play/record vinyl just to transfer it to another format to listen to it on other equipment. Do a lot of the companies selling vinyl not also sell digital downloads or are such downloads inferior in comparison to vinyl rips?
