No thoughts on the Scalebound cancellation?

Surprised there is no thread on this, since it was one of the few Japanese developed hyped games on the xbox one. Ill admit this was probably the only game after Sunset Overdrive that I had any inkling to play, and honestly platinum has never disappointed me to date. And we already had the let down of Recore and now this is cancelled.

Also got a laugh out of Phil Spencer saying this cancellation was good for gamers, maybe it was good for sony and nintendo gamers who avoided picking up an xbox, or the pc master race who laughed all the way to the interweb since most xbox games will now all be released on the pc.

Nope. It's on Xbox One. Nuff said. Sony always wins.

I haven't a clue what the game is without looking it up. Don't bother to follow stuff anymore much. And yes Xbox one is a pile. Only use the scorpion (or whatever) is the 4k drive.
99% of what I do on my Xone is Forza games. It serves no other use but to annoy me.

First I've heard of it, JKlowney_12.

I think it's terrible news. I suspect that Microsoft is wanting something more than what is in the contract and Platinum is refusing. Platinum has been getting a lot of criticism for licensed efforts and it all comes down to budget vs quality. Platinum would rather stay in business. We'll see what happens with Nier.

Really unfortunate. A game I was looking forward to.

It was a game I was looking forward too as well. From what was shown in 2015 it looked promising. The multiplayer shown at gamescom following its initial showing was not so hot, though. The framerate always seemed too much for the XboxOne to handle, though. Platinum could have bitten off more than they could chew with the scope of the game and the underpowered console they were making it for. The game did tout having the largest boss fights for a Platinum game yet. Who knows... from what it seems like though is MS was just unreasonable with their demands for the game. A few of Platinum's staff took leaves of absence late last year to recoup from the stress.

Also Microsoft seems really big on all their releases having some sort of microtransaction element to them lately, with Quantum Break and Recore being the exceptions. Both those games lack MP elements and QB probably got a pass on MP support due to it being further along in development. Recore, on the other hand, feels like an incomplete game. Since there is no MP in it, the budget was probably severely reduced. All conjecture though.

End of the day, this is disappointing. Hopefully, Platinum can retain the rights to the game and resurrect it in some fashion on another console, or under another publisher. Obsidian was able to do that with the project they had canceled by MS when the XboxOne launched. From those ashes, Tyranny rose. Fingers crossed this happens again.

Heard the news, but all I SAW was Microsoft killing the XBone. I know people who bought the console awaiting the Scalebound release as it was the main hype for them.

Honestly, it was the only thing the console had possibly going for it other than, like, Rare Replay... so it's a dead console in my eyes. Bummer. Gone.

Other then 1st/3rd person shooters and racing games, the upcoming exclusives landscape is looking really barren for the XBone at this point. I guess they still have Cuphead at least.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like MS forced Platinum to shoehorn in multiplayer about a year after development started, and then continued to mess with other major parts of the game causing the budget to spiral out of control. Of course that's just speculation, but the real story probably wont come to light for many years.

I honestly can't imagine how they plan to sell the Scorpio especially if anywhere near 600 bucks. I don't need 4k for anime..................or anything else for that matter. Its a nice thing to have, but I won't break the bank for it.

@Fabrizo1, I don't if what you say is true, but it does seem based on what platinum said that this was more MS shutting them down then them putting something really bad. Like I mentioned earlier Recore was pretty hyped as one of their exclusive and it was kind of dud, but they still released it, I can't imagine how bad Scalebound would have to be that MS would cancel it rather than putting out a crappy product. Qunatum Break has also been somewhat overwhelming.

Lol, that was pretty much my thought instantly as well. A lot is riding on Cuphead, they have some insane hype going for the game but I really hope it lives up to expectations.
