I just find it baffling you'd not focus on the ones that were the most known and well recieved.

Was Shining Force 2 really that good? Played it for a couple of minutes and it turned out to be... okay? It seems like a basic game as well, but that must not be a bad thing. Every generation got these games (Musashi 1+2, Azure Dreams, etc.) and I liked them too. The GBA games of Shining Force are also on my backlog list. Action RPGs are cool on the GBA, though.
Shining force and II we're pretty much my childhood. A little bit of an exaggeration but are among my favorites all time. It took me so many playthroughs to find all the characters, and trying characters that I never tried. Putting some time grinding some shitty characters and finding out they were ****ing beasts. Trying to find musashi because I had seen my older brother playing with him and instead stumbling upon Hanzo. They aren't incredibly complex now, but back then there wasn't much out west like them.

Games beaten/beaten again this year:
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC
Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel
Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
Final Fantasy IV (PSP)
Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion
Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim

I'm trying to even think of other SRPGs that were available around then. The only thing I can think of is Super Conflict on the SNES. Shining Force obliterates Super Conflict.
Edit: There was Dark Wizard too. Which required a hardware addon and is still noticeably worse than Shining Force.
Having not played the two Game Gear games, but having played Shining Force CD, I thought it was a remake of the two GG games, and *one* additional book to finish out the story, with basically all of the characters in it. At least, I do not remember any fourth “game” to go through.
Never mind, misread.

Shining in the Darkness was a really fun game. Tho I don't think that's actually part of the series.
