I can see a $50 difference, maybe $100, but that is forcing it.
$200+ less than the PS5 is crazy talk. No way they will sell the MOST POWERFUL!1!! system evah that low.
This is all part of the Sony cycle. If history repeats this one will be overpriced ($600) at launch.

Wasn't the 60 GB PS3 launch also $599? With a 30 GB $499 version to follow? This gave Microsoft an edge for several years.

Even with inflation, $599 seems pretty costly over a decade later.
XBox 360 was $299 / $399 (20 GB), It's certainly not unheard of, because it still remained more powerful than the PS3 even though it was a year older and even outperformed it up to GTA V, which might be the only game that substantially benefited by the Blu-ray and PS-specific optimizations.
I loved being able to actually play XBox 360 games from the discs.
