Someone did a version of Lunar on the PSP .. I wonder if Mr Ireland is going to get us Lunar 2 :P

I'd still LOVE to see a port of the SegaCD version of the two Lunar games to current gen consoles or handhelds.

That would be more likely to end up on PSN as digital but seeing how Gamearts is trying to avoid doing anything with the Lunar series, it has no future

IMO, the Sega CD versions have aged well (mainly because they are 2D). I played them a few years ago back to back and was fully immersed!

Ever since getting the PS1 versions when they just came out, I have thought that though the PS1 version was superior in a technological (better graphics, it had animated movies for cut scenes rather than stills) way, the SegaCD versions were superior (especially Lunar : The Silver Star) in a way that transcended the technology of the console it was being played upon. The SegaCD version of Lunar just gave me a sense of urgency to it all, while the PS1 version did not. To a lesser extent, the same was true of the two versions of Lunar 2.

Handhelds, much more than current consoles, better fit the older 2D styles of yesteryear's consoles. The two SegaCD Lunars would be an awesome addition to any handheld's library - as would the PS1 versions. I just advocate the SegaCD versions because I found them to be better games, even though the PS1 versions were better in terms of graphical quality.

A PSP RPG that isn't a dungeon crawler sounds like a dream to me. I'm starting to feel some dungeon crawler fatigue since most handheld RPGs getting western releases these days seem to be more or less dungeon crawling. Conception II, Mind=0, Persona Q and Demon Gaze are all coming fairly soon too.

I always liked the large world maps in Lunar on SegaCD, was really disappointed when the PS1 version shrunk it to almost nothing.

The Sega CD versions also had random battles instead of them being visible on the maps

So many small changes (and not so small) between the two versions of the Lunars.

Random battles, actual spell lists where you learned better spells as you leveled up, Inca God ... heck in Lunar 2 you earned Magic Points as well as gold and experience after a fight, and had to spend those Magic Points on both upgrading skills AND on saving.

Now, I know that there was another console in between the SegaCD and the PS, and that the Complete versions were ports of that other console's games, but I feel that the only real improvements on the SegaCD versionsgames that the PS had was in graphics, both in-game and the cut-scenes. That's part of the reason I'd rather have the SegaCD versions than the PS, available on PSP or PS3. The other reason is that I can put the PS games into my PS3 and play them. I cannot do that with the SegaCD games without digging up the SegaCD.

Vic's last Twitter post mentions this is a more well-known title.
