Shenmue 1 (DC) 2 (DC/Xbox): Fan Appreciation topic!

So I recently saw Shenmue II (Xbox) at my goodwill, but was unable to buy it at the time and missed out. Just recently bought a copy off of Ebay for $12 shipped. While, I already played (and have) the series on the Dreamcast, getting the Xbox version might ignite my retro passion to play through it again.

Xbox version only has English voiceovers, but I don't think that will deter me from still enjoying the game!

I remember buying "Shenmue The Movie" as a separate DVD release from Yes-Asia, I think it was called for $20, so it's nice to see it included in the Xbox version already.

Possible Shenmue III announcement/release on the PS4?

I also have both DC games (PAL import) of II. I have the Xbox version but it is hard to get over the bad voice acting after playing it in Japanese so many times, and it doesn't really play very well on a 360 with emulation.

There is always speculation, and I'll believe it when I see it. Everyone expected some big announcement at GDC but nothing was unfortunately delivered. SEGA hasn't been one to give the fans exactly what they want in recent years so I'm not holding out for any news.

I remember getting Shenmue 2 for XBOX twice for $2.99 at one of my local EB Games trying to get the DVD that came with it, but neither did. I swear, it was either never in the case to begin with, the people working there just took it home with them, or they threw out the discussion when the game came in because it was a movie.

Regardless of that, even though I didn't really know what happened in the first game, my time with the sequel was a lot of fun. Shame about the cliffhanger ending that'll probably never get resolved though

Yeah I have the game for all regions except for a JP copy of II. I don't see myself ever playing the xbox version, but I like having it just cuz.

I can tell you the plot in about a paragraph.

Boy loses dad to Chinese Mafia guy Lan Di. Goes after him. Pets kittens. Collects Choro-Q from vending machines. Drinks truckloads of Jet Cola but never gets type-II diabetes from it. Wins lucky cans for more Choro-Q cars. Visits girlfriend Nazomi who seems to have no real interest in him and always sounds clinically depressed, yet Ryo never seems sad when she says that she's moving to Canada. Dances in the street with Tom the hot dog guy who claims to be his best friend and cries when he says he's going to leave for America. Ryo is actually sad this time, and buys a hot dog. Plays video games, darts, etc. Fights some creepy spider guy that really needs to see a dentist. Beats up thugs outside of a bar. Ine-san (their housekeeper) scolds him for coming home late. Goes on a quest to find sailors. Works as a forklift operator for what seems to be the world's longest racing minigame ever created. Finds mafia boss. Chases him to China for Shenmue II.

Penny Arcade sorta nailed the first game years ago: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2000/11/15

I loved Shenmue, so I jest in the way that I oversimplify it. i think I've played both games at least 3-4 times each. But it's amazing just how much better the sequel was. It's sad that it ended with no real sort of closure.
