Well you can always return it. Gamestop is pretty good about that.

Honestly even in a dub or sub, I feel there are some things better off left in Japanese because they don't translate well. Honorifics being one example, -san translates okay enough into Mr. or Ms/Mrs. , but things like -dono, -sama, -kun, -chan, really don't translate as well and are used enough that most fans of the work would understand them by now.

I mean another good example is Dattebayo in Naruto. It sure as hell doesn't mean Believe It, its more of a verbal tic. Its closer to someone who always says "um" or "like".

If that is not the issue excuse my rant, but that is what came to mind when I read Ramza's post about one word of Japanese and 2 sentences of English.
The complainants are not that they kept some words in Japanese.

The complaint is that some of the Japanese spoken word has absolutely nothing to do with the English text that is displayed on-screen. It's not a huge issue, but nonetheless a distraction to those who can understand both, even a little bit. The argument is that it is a fairly weak localization attempts as a result, and the script writing was almost as if it was intended to get a VA dub but Bamco dropped the ball on it.

I actually went by the store yesterday to buy it, then stopped before going up to the counter and walked out again because I remembered something. You can use the PowerUp Rewards to print out coupons, so I bet I can get like at least $10 off the price.

Yeah I'm hoping to get it for $20 to $30. Or less of course.

The games really good so far in my opinion, i could care less about it not being dubbed, so many peeps are hating or won't even buy the game lol
The localization is fine, yeah a couple words don't match but overall it's great.

Theres been quite a few funny skits so far, and Gall is my favourite character. Beryls pretty funny too.

Okay, yeah that is kind of annoying, but not a deal breaker for me.

Doesn't effect me or the price at which I want to buy the game at all.

Actually this makes the localization good, but because it doesn't match the Japanese Script 1:1 people throw a fit.
And if that's a problem for you, GTFO, go improve your Japanese and play the Japanese version to be as pure and kawaii as you want.

What works in Japanese doesn't always work in English.

This is a well known fact. Adding things to help make it make more sense in English or to give individual characters more character is more important than robotic liberal translation any day.

Just look at Arc The Lad, WD's localizations of the game vs the localizations of the Anime prior to WD's release of the games make the Anime's localization look like Amateur Hour.

(Especially in pronunciation vs language of origin of the word.)

However, ridiculous name changes like "KOR" are just stupid. And make about as much sense as changing the English names of characters simply based on what original Romaji was or how it was pronounced

    Cless vs Cress
    Tosh vs Toshu
    Gogen vs Gorgon
    Chongara vs Chongala
Rattix vs Roddick (I love me some RAW DICK)
    Frioniel vs Firion
    Butz vs Bartz
    Tina vs Terra
    Aerith vs Aeris

    10/10 Will read again.

This is why I don't like a lot of the recent stuff from Atlus. Growlanser IV was a very stiff translation. Didn't get far enough into Conception II to form a concrete opinion but it seemed very meh.

i dont care either as long as you can understand whats going on and its not elminage type of bad localization.actually, i have more of a problem with pricing, i believe that this game should have been 19.99 instead of the 39.99 that they are asking.after all, they are saving money by not doing the dubbing
