It takes some getting used to. The rails system is weird at first. Watch a few playthroughs and it becomes a snap, and even fun.

I was hooked once I saw a handful of the cutscenes and dialogue, and had to play through it myself to see the rest. Pretty awesome writing and localization. Every time I see that scene with Harman and Kun: "Tricks are for kids, Kun", it cracks me up and I think of Kill Bill. Or when Dan tracks down Curtis and he says: "Danny Boy. Look at you! You've changed considerably. Into a badass, if I may.". It's just the quirky dialogue that makes an otherwise odd game a blast to play, and was the start of Suda making games that rip off pop culture to increase the fun factor.

Definitely one of those love-or-hate kinds of games.

The only localized Grasshopper physical media games I don't have are Diabolical Pitch and Samurai Champloo. Samurai Champloo had decent review scores for a licensed game, and it's cheap, so I may pick it up.
I have all of his US physical releases, I just need to go back and get his JAP releases with the only exception being the wrestling game he did, I might not get that one. Also just found Swery 65 worked on Extermination. I actually heard it was a cult horror game, and people said it was actually better than given credit for, so as horror fan with the edition of Swery having worked on it, I have to pick it up.

Actually what surprised me more was that swery was the main creator on Spy Fiction. I had no idea. The reason I got Spy Fiction is because the character designs were done by the Legendary Range Murata.

I like finding obscure games that my favorite developers worked on.

I don't see it with Suda...at all...I wouldn't want any of his games let alone one.

Just not a fan of the gameplay tbqh. I tried Killer 7. Didn't like the experience overall, though I didn't get all that far in.

Suda embodies this quirkiness that you really only see in Japan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXPfVtb6lrg). I will admit though its not for everyone, its one of those things you just have to like or will never like it. But my God its grand when you do.

Gypsy's saying he can't get around the general crappy mediocre quality of the Suda games. Understandable.

Makes sense too since Suda's fanbois usually admire everything about his games BUT the games themselves. I admit I find myself putting up with a crappy game due to the general screwiness of the story and its characters sometimes.

Recently, I think Suda's studio has been ripping off the competition though. Lollipop Chainsaw is Suda's Dynasty Warriors (xxxxxxy) and Killer Is Dead is secretly Suda's Revengeance.

This is where I stopped taking this post seriously, although I probably should have done so earlier. Because clearly Dynasty Warrior invented Hack n Slash. If you were going to say Suda was ripping someone off with Lollipop at least try a game thats more similar to it, ie Devil May Cry. Dynasty Warriors is generally a non linear map oriented game where you run around a map killing enemies getting in your way while Devil May Cry and Lollipop are more level oriented.

And I love his humor so I am willing to overlook the faults in his games, but you could say that about every bleeping person that likes something. Ocarina of Time, Citzen Kane, etc. none of these things are actually perfect, and people overlook their faults in favor of their strong points. That is just the nature of liking something. I am not going to say I like something, and then spend the next hour bad mouthing it.

Suda's games are flawed, like pretty much any game out there, but his fans like them despite the flaws.

Just picked up a 360 copy of Killer is Dead from GameStop as well, thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately it was already opened (gutted) but I wasn't going to quibble over it for like $10.

    you don't see it?

I mean sure, on the surface, they're two completely different games, but at the core, there are a number of distinct similarities between the two...

for starters, the presentation. You play as a warrior wearing a dress beating the crap out of a large number of enemies on a battle field. Your family are more or less a clan of officers. The little town is your kingdom with the stages taking place in the various territories that make it up. The interface and controls are very similar. Its a two button hack and slash largely dependent on dial-a-combos. A meter fills up as you kill stuff. When said meter is active, things are even easier to kill. There's even a ranged attack that used to be present in earlier Dynasty Warriors games. Periodically a named enemy appears like a wimpy officer. Then you reclaim your territory by defeating the head officer at the end of the stage. Then you fight Elvis.

pushing aside all the creative fluff, the game gave me a real strong Dynasty Warriors impression.
