Nothing in 0079 really felt like filler to me, but I might go for the movies instead of rewatching it (whenever I feel up for revisiting the series) anyway. I'm sure I'll enjoy rewatching all of Wing, but that's probably because of how ridiculous/shojo it is. I'd probably have more incentive to watch another Gundam series if they were half as long though. Turn A is gathering dust...though I'll get to it eventually.
Yeah, I've heard that the movies are what made Gundam popular in Japan and that initial airings of the TV show didn't do so great. I prefer to give each respective series a chance before the movies though (and I don't even own any of the movies that summarize any of the series yet).
I look forward to checking out the 0079 movies though when I can afford to pick up the Blu-rays (I currently only have the 0079 and Zeta series on DVD; though I have Turn A on Blu-ray thanks to the trade-in program and Wing on Blu-ray as well because I'm a sucker/idiot for pre-ordering LE box sets). Zeta is the Gundam show I'm the most excited about regardless of if I chose to set aside enough time to marathon the DVDs or wait until I can afford the Blu-rays to watch it.
Zeta is awesome and the blus look SOOOOO good. A very noticeable improvement in animation quality from the original.

That's good to know. I picked up Austrailian box sets of the first two series a few years before the announcement of the Blu-rays at a point where it was way too expensive/difficult to get most Gundam shows on DVD in the US (that were mostly out of print). I can't wait until I can upgrade both, and luckly there aren't many other series I own on DVD I'd like to replace (I still need to pick up Rayearth on Blu-ray but have yet to do so because of the price, but I can't think of anything else).
Praise Rightstuf for releasing all the Gundams.
I'm in the same boat on the Rayearth blu set.
