Taking sci-fi seriously is the first step towards not liking it...unless you want hard sci-fi which is out there...but meh.

I couldn't even enjoy The Fifth Element the first time I saw it because I tried to watch it like a serious movie.

You're supposed to be staring at Milla's body the whole movie.

That's what the Resident Evil movie series is for.

I don't know what I expected the first time I watched that, but I remember being somewhat disappointed. Same thing with Mars Attacks. I love Tim Burton movies (well, loved - to that point he was batting almost 1.000), so we paid a whopping $30 EACH to see it in Japan (not even for the "expensive seats") because we were there when it came out. I was REALLY disappointed with that one. However, on repeated viewings, I've grown to like 5th Element a LOT and appreciate most of Mars Attacks (Jack Nicholson's part is still a mess I fast forward).

I really like the 5th Element a lot too, and I think it has aged pretty well as a fun action/sci-fi flick. The visuals and model work especially hold up well, and even Chris Tucker is watchable which is saying something! Anyway, it came out around the time I was getting into the internet and it heavily influenced the handle/username I chose and have stuck with ever since. I've got a lot of xelement5x @ some domain emails/accounts I've made over time and I can't even remember the password to a ton of them since it's been years (possibly a decade or more) since many of them have been used.

A buddy told me to watch The Fifth Element again but to just let the insanity be and watch it unleash. It's awesome and I watch it nearly every time I see it on.

As for Tim Burton, I let his name and greatness convince me to go see Corpse Bride and that one put me to sleep in the theater.

Yeah Corpse Bride was pretty unwatchable.
