Plus the Grandia Digital Museum game which we never got.
It almost just seems to be an oversight in the port more than anything else. Yeah, the game looks better on the Saturn, but the differences aren't substantial enough that anyone would know the difference without comparing the two.

When compared to today's systems, both have the rudimentary 3d graphics of the 32 bit era. Comparing them is like comparing a Ford Escort to a Chevy Cavalier. They get the job done but are entirely utilitarian. We play those games today for every reason except for the graphics. Specifically, old games are just fun to play. I like both the Saturn and PSX, but the only real reason that my PSX got more play time is because it had the hundreds of great games, while the Saturn library was substantially smaller.

I thought I read somewhere that Grandia PSX was a "dirty port" - they basically ported the code directly from the Saturn and didn't bother cleaning up the stuff that couldn't make the transition.

I don't know, I'm not a programmer, but that was my understanding of it.

So I had to level for about 20 hours just to beat the final boss without the skill, it sucked. Liked the game a lot other then that though.

Back when it came out it was easily the best looking jrpg out on any console, bar none.
Skies of Arcadia was localized a month earlier. Personally, I think it looked much better and it didn't have some annoying kid in pantaloons in the main party.

Gods...I still have the demo disc with the Skies demo and Grandia II trailer...I don't think I've ever been more pleased with one of those discs...

I've got one for you- who thought up the little lines to throw in the bottom of the magazine ads, and is there someplace where they are all archived?

I actually stole that concept with my webpage when I was running it..

The PSX version was substantially inferior to the Saturn. Even with extensive re-tweaking it couldn't match the Saturn version because of Saturn's multiple processors and the fact that Game Arts programmers were insane and used every drop of power they could find. Initially, they even thought a PSX port would be impossible. I was shown early tech demos that looked REALLY rough. They found a way, but it wasn't pretty if you had the Saturn version.

I have copies of most of the ads, and I did the copy and taglines, but it became more of a curse over time because we'd have an ad ready to go and I'd remember that I'd have to come up with a @#@$%#$%# tagline before we could go to print. So, some are better than others. But the "WD format" of ads was something I did on purpose and rarely broke.

Sony backed off with that after they saw Microsoft allow Agarest and Agarest Zero to get disc releases without any conflict
