I think people from the heyday of those consoles (PS1/2, N64, GC) are getting older with more disposable income. On the flip though, NES and other 16-bit stuff seems to be drooping a bit. Genesis CIB still is strong through, probably people finally realize how awesome it was.

The lack of interest on OG XBOX is interesting to me as well. I've been debating trying to do a full set on that as I have a number of the high dollar games already, and a good general library. Plus the majority of prices are low and you can find the games almost everywhere cheap still.
Agree, I was trying to convey that with my last line but you made the point more clearly.

A friend of mine has an Xbox fullset if you'd like I could put you in contact, maybe he has info that would help you. XBox is a fun console.

@Dino: I like collecting. If it's ever not fun to me, I'd get rid of stuff. I collect for PS2 while playing games via OPL. If you are getting disillusioned with it, maybe just put it on hold? I've been there with various hobbies before. It's all about w/e you want to do for yourself and what you enjoy.

Right now I enjoy collecting for PS1, DC and PS2 in terms of old systems. I've of course just naturally accumulated a crap ton of PS360 games. PS4 is growing as well thanks to things getting dirt cheap.

And I am just missing Raycrisis to complete my WD PS1 set. The game seems to go for $40-$50 more than before >_>

Those are titles I still enjoy having. If only the one I bought some time ago hadn't been stolen...

I really like the OG Xbox, but collecting it is a catch 22. The disc drives fail, so you really should soft-mod them so you can play stuff off the HDD. But if you have a soft-modded system you should never feed it retail discs, because random games will just install crap and kick you off your soft-mod. You don't even want to dump your own games, because your dump would still include those updates.
So if you go for it, the collection might just end up as a shelf decoration.

Wait really? I haven't had this happen yet. Is there a list?

What game(s) can break the 5.11 softmod install?

    Stonks.

Those rises in price have destroyed my desire to get stuff to complete those mini sets I'm after. Yesterday, I saw an auction of an NGPC game that usually went for $70-$90 ending at $210. NothingToDoHere.

    What site is that?

I don't get what that graph is showing? PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, PSP? Which? NTSC, PAL, other regions? New/Used?

Gamevaluenow. I find they are a little better than Pricecharting.

I could think of several games I have that I would not buy at current prices. Valkyrie Profile, Xenosaga III, Thousand Arms (pushing $150-200 when FULLY complete, it makes a big difference and is hard for these sites to track because copies without the holocard and stickers are viewed as complete by their system but every copy was sold with these things) I could probably go on and on with examples if I wanted to look everything up. Many prices have been pushed to absurdity. I never expected to own Tales of Destiny II (Eternia) on PS1 again but a friend online knew I was looking and scored me an insane deal (less than half current eBay for a NM complete copy).

The average price of a CIB PS1 game has risen from $16 to over $23. This includes every unique game but does not include GH re-issues or longbox releases of a game that has a normal release.

Looks like the COVID is totally responsible for that hike if you look at charts. That is one of the few PS1 games that I do not own and have wanted for years. I always wanted a copy but kept expecting it to drop in price more after the PSP version came out. Now I wish I'd picked it up at around $100 then instead of sitting on my hands over it.
