Sorta, kinda. Amiibos are generally useless unless you play Smash. Skylanders & Infinity you atleast unlock the characters and can play with them in the games. Amiibos collect dust if you don't play smash.

A means of causing an internal conflict for me. I love figurines and action figures from video games, but I hate DLC. I've sided with not getting any of them, even for their aesthetic value, because screw DLC and what it's doing to gaming.

If you care about gaming, oppose the absurd ways they're misusing and abusing DLC. It's not COMPLETELY bad. Games like Guitar Hero/Rock Band/Rocksmith definitely should use DLC but on the whole, DLC is a means of nickel and diming gamers and if the trend continues...we're heading toward bad times.
I don't really get what Amiibos do? I mean, do they have special microchips in them that contain the DLC and you upload it from them to your WiiU?
So long as there's an offline way to get the extra content (so it can be collected or had by future generations without resorting to piracy), I'm OK with it.
