This is what, the 4th time this game has been released? It's barely good enough to release once.

I'm surprised there's so much negativity around this release here. I thought the general consensus was Grandia 1 & 2 = good, Grandia Xtreme & 3 = bad (but still have a great battle system). And they'd have to mess up pretty badly for this version to be worse than the PS2 & old PC releases.

I mean, I'm just wondering how it's so enhanced to make people want to pay $20 for the 4th release of the game. Grandia II isn't terrible but it's nothing special either.

haha sorry if we come off as being negative :P Most of us just have/play the regular versions. I do wish this goes well but yeah it's not for everyone. I'm sure that a lot of people want to play this for the first time or just want to replay the classic after many years on a platform they have and I think that's great but it's not exactly the most appealing piece of software to collectors (90% of this forum) unless it's a tech junkie(meaning that in a positive way) and just wants to play everything on max res when possible.

Maybe because some people think it's actually a rather good game and not just mediocre? The combat & music are both amazing and the characters are amusing as well. A used copy of Grandia 2 is probably going to cost you around $30 or more, plus you'll need to buy a Dreamcast if you don't already have one. As far as improvements go, it's getting cleaned up graphics, a much needed hard difficulty, and dual language tracks.

The main reason I want it is the higher difficulty level. I remember the game being pretty easy in its original form which was a shame since the battle system is so good.

But yeah, given that there are a lot of WD fans here, I figured there would be a lot of Grandia fans as well, seeing as how it's a successor to Lunar in a lot of ways.

I do know that I'm a bit of an oddball here in that I much prefer digital copies to physical. Gotta love having dozens of games ready to play at a moment's notice on my Vita & PC.

They would be thinking wrong. The script is completely throwaway. It's unfortunate because the rest of the game is in fact quite good.

I don't remember the script being particularly bad (certainly nowhere near as bad as some of the localization monstrosities that were on the SNES & PS1), but even if it was, it's pretty easy to ignore and just focus on the great gameplay. If you want a great script, you can always play a visual novel.

I actually really liked Grandia2 on the Dreamcast, but there's just not enough improved here to make it worth re-buying as a digital-only title as someone that still owns the original.

The story isn't particularly inspired, but it had its moments.
    Spoiler:
The plot twist about the Pope was nice even if it was predictable, and I thought the whole dual-persona thing the heroine had was interesting.
