How much would it cost to product an indie game of 1000-2000 copies? At worst I could probably get my money back on it. Or you could go full Revenge of the Birdking/Poopslinger and slow play copies on your friends account and actually make some good $

I think the Wii U is out but PS4
Totally doable. The only hard part is finding an indie dev willing to let you have/sell their game.

Yeah that is true. The rights to a game might be a whole other thing.

I would love the Doom 64 remake to get a physical release. I feel like LRG has enough pull to get that done. Maybe I can goes halfsies on it with them. See this is just how I think. Im sure there is way more to it than someone with some funding money coming to them.

However people like the Bird King guy, a developer with only one person, might be more willing. But at that point you're probably looking at an indie game barely worth publishing in the first place.

I guess Im shocked more small people with some money to invest don't just get some games published. If you get an official PS4 release with an ESRB rating it seems you'll already have collectors coming for copies just to have complete sets.

so you're in it just to create small runs of games to inflate prices on the game video game market? That's what it looks like to me.

Hell yeah. Don't even offer them on a retail sale, put each one on eBay individually for auction!

Do you currently have a game that you are looking to publish?

No definitely not. That was more of a joke based on what I believe that Bird King guy is actually doing.

However Im just being honest. I have some extra money (Im not rich by any means). I think it would be pretty incredible to help get a physical copy of game made. Even have your name in the manual etc. Some what of bucket list type thing (not sure many bucket lists include this) But something youd have on the shelf and you'd know you were part of the reason that physical game is in your collection or sitting at Gamestop (granted the print run unlikely to have on there)

Say you could do a PS4 game with a print run of 1,000 which Ive heard is the minimum. I feel like no matter what game you publish, it will sell out if you put it up for sale.

No idea what it costs to make a PS4 title per disc. I only found date on Wii and WiiU pressing somewhere between 5-7$ per disc.

Lets say it cost 10,000. I assume way more involved process such as designing the art and game rights etc.

That would be $10 a game you have into it. Sell them for $29.99... Probably have to pay taxes on the income etc.

Not saying its a huge money venture but you could easily make the money back plus the coolness of publishing a game. I imagine this why these companies have started to pop up. Its doable in some way.

    Honestly I don't

The idea went rushing through my head when I saw Shakedown Hawaii get a WiiU release with a run of 3,000. Then went back to wondering what ever happened to Fatal Frame V and how surprised I was and still am that it never got a physical release from one of these smaller companies. Then when I saw how much it costs to print 3k it seemed very doable. Im assuming Fatal Frame had a much larger licensing fee etc seeing as how its not a small indie game, but one owned by Nintendo.

It would be neat to do a horror game like that. A genre I always was near and dear to growing up. I feel good horror games can slide under the radar a lot.

Not sure what else to say but my curiosity is perked and I wouldn't mind investing in a physical release if I could learn more of the ins and outs involved.

I mean PS4 stuff is pretty easy to develop for with something like Unity or Unreal. To be a PS4 release though you'd need official devkit hardware to build and sell it. Then getting the games made might not be that bad. If you could make a crappy racing game with a VR mode you might have better sales too.

I think the reason Bird King guy could make his game and publish it under the radar is because he was using LRG/Mighty Rabbit resources like the devkit and the existing publisher contacts. I don't doubt he did a lot of work on his own, but by already working for the company he had a very nice leg up on getting it made physically.
